Neurotechnologies to Help the Body Move, Heal and Feel Again

Project 8: Enhancing Mobile VR/AR User Experience via An Integrated Architecture-System Approach (Fu, ECOMS Lab)
VR Systems in ECOMS Lab
VR Systems in ECOMS Lab

Background: Virtual Reality (VR) and Augment Reality (AR) are increasingly adopted in mobile devices for providing rich experience to mobile users. However, the limited hardware resources in mobile devices can barely support the tremendous resource requirements by VR/AR technology; not mention satisfying the insatiable user demands for excellent user experience.

Research Plan: In our proposed project, we will embed REU students with a team of graduate student mentors to enhance the mobile VR/AR user experience via an integrated hardware-software approach. A VR system in the ECOMS lab is shown in Fig. REU trainees will be involved in all aspects of the research, from data collection and analysis, idea exploration, lab presentations and preparation of technical reports.

Prerequisites: An introductory course in computer organization and computer graphics are desirable.
