Major Biomedical Engineering
Biosketch Payal Patel is an undergraduate third-year Biomedical Engineering student at the Georgia Institute of Technology with research interests in assistive technologies, computational modeling, and inclusive medical device design. Her project experience includes developing an Arduino-driven insulin pen adapter for seniors with limited dexterity and modeling chemotherapy dosing for pregnant patients, which deepened her commitment to addressing gaps in how underrepresented patient populations are served by biomedical research. Her goal is to pursue an MD/PhD focused on designing tools for patients whose needs have been historically overlooked. She is excited to contribute to the FDA/University of Houston REU project on accelerometry in cardiovascular wearables and to gain experience in research and collaboration, and to meet new people. Outside of the lab, Payal enjoys traveling, watching movies, and hiking/going on long walks.
